Adult Education Graduate Profile

Katherine enrolled with Adult Ed in the fall of 2018 and graduated with her High School Equivalency Diploma in June 2019. She knew she wanted to go to college and that a high school credential was a necessary step to achieve that goal. Katherine studied hard for her HiSET tests and achieved a “college ready” score on all five tests, which is a significant accomplishment! She enjoyed the Science test the most, and has enrolled at Southern Maine Community College this fall as the first step in her goal of studying neuroscience. College and Career Advisor, Caitlin Clark, helped Katherine co-enroll in the Maine College and Career Access (MCCA) Services through RSU13 Adult Education. This gave her free access to resources and supports like College and Career Advising, including identifying careers of interest; assisted college research; navigating the financial aid process; AccuPlacer exam preparation and testing; and the free 3-credit course COL 100 offered through RSU13 Adult Education onsite at UROCK.  As an MCCA student, Katherine will receive continued supports and check-ins from Caitlin after she begins college to offer assistance with any issues or questions that come up. She liked the flexibility and one-to-one assistance offered in the RSU13 Adult Education program.  When asked if she had advice for our current students, she replied, “You get as much out as you put in.” Best wishes to Katherine as she begins her college career!
